Handmade Soaps – Melt and Pour soaps

Handmade Soaps – Melt and Pour soaps

The lockdown has been both good and bad in my opinion. Good because most of us got to work from home, spend more time with family [although not the extended family], read more, cook and try new recipes, pickup new hobbies etc.

Bad, as you all know, most people have lost their livelihood, missed many events in out closed one’s good and bad, lost school time less learnings from the outside world.

As for me, it was/is a mixed bag of emotions and happenings. But as one who always used to look at brighter things only in my life. I divided despite the negativity around wanted to pick up new hobbies, cook and create is not affected by all the time spent doing what my desires too.

One such hobby I want to share here today in my blog is about soap making. Not the hot soap method but the simpler cold melt and pour soap making method.

I have already been so very fascinated by the handmade soap sections in the organic colors, flavor’s unimaginable array of ingredients combination. I wanted to try them all but guess what, the price is too very high like 1 bar equaled to 4 regular bars price.

I wanted to try cheaper ways of soap making so I can try them, as I love them.

Any ingredient that goes in is to my liking always perfect that was when I decided never to buy a soap bar again from the stores but always make them at home.

So having decided on soap making, which would be easier and efficient to be made from home?

I settled on melt and pour soaps with 100% organic ingredients that are good and reasonably priced essential oils. There are a variety of soap bases available in the market and I at first thought to settle with the know glycerin, shea butter soap bases but remember the retail world has a lot more to offer. Goat milk base, aloe vera, charcoal soaps and lot more.

So take your pick and decide on a soap base.

Now that the base is decided, lets see a bit about the additions to it to make it what would suit your skin that will please your mind and peace. After all trying aroma therapy is to soothe your senses and make you feel great right?

Considering additions is where I came across the vase world of essential oils and also my own kitchen pantry to offer me a wide variety of choices to pick and make soaps. So far I have used quick oats, sugar, turmeric powder, freeze dried fruits and peels and shells [powdered] and so on.

I also like adding a little ACV [Apple cider Vinegar] in the melted soap base to balance out the PH level. I find that using ACV helps retain the smell of the essential oils without them evaporating easily. This way there is no need to add corn starch in body soaps. Imagine some kind of starch in the soaps!! [shudder]

After you have made all the above decisions on the choices, the actual making of homemade soap is very simple. Takes all of 10 minutes prep work and 2 hours of cooling time, for which you don’t have to be close by monitoring.
